Campos are natural ecosystems in Brazil which are characterized by the presence of grasses and herbs, some trees and shrubs, and they are found close to water courses. They show a large diversity of plant species, but many of them are threatened with extinction, because of encroaching agricultural areas and the process of urbanization. The introduction of native plants in the urban landscape can be a way of minimizing extinction. In this work they are presented: a) the project named “Native Ornamental Plants of South Brazil”; b) 10 native Anacardiaceae, Asteraceae, Apiaceae, Apocynaceae, Convolvulaceae and Plantaginaceae species identified as having ornamental potential; and c) their preliminary germination test results.
