Preliminary results: ISHS Sections/Commissions – Chairperson elections

The ISHS Sections/Commissions where the result of the elections for a new Chairperson (2010-2014) is already available after the end of the first election round are as follows:

  • Section Tropical and Subtropical Horticulture: Prof. Dr. Sisir Kumar Mitra
  • Section Nuts and Mediterranean Climate Fruits: Dr. Damiano Avanzato
  • Section Root and Tuber Crops: Prof. Dr. Noureddine Benkeblia
  • Section Vegetables: Prof. Dr. Silvana Nicola
  • Commission Fruits and Vegetables and Health: Prof. Dr. Olaf Van Kooten
  • Commission Sustainability through Integrated and Organic Horticulture: Dr. Robert K. Prange
  • Commission Education, Research Training and Consultancy: Prof. Dr. Errol W. Hewett

The Sections/Commissions where the first election round did not result in a candidate receiving the required 50%+1 majority of the votes are as follows (candidates who proceed to the second round between brackets):

  • ISHS Section Vine and Berry Fruits (Lopes – Strik)
  • ISHS Section Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (Brown – Barata – Máthé)
  • ISHS Section Ornamental Plants (Serek – Bridgen – Zuliani)
  • ISHS Commission Molecular Biology and In Vitro Culture (Lambardi – Zhang – Dorion)
  • ISHS Commission Quality and Post Harvest Horticulture (Kanlayanarat – Watkins – Tonutti)
  • ISHS Commission Plant Genetic Resources (Reed – Jaenicke – Botta)

ISHS elections are open to all members of the Sections/Commissions involved (who receive a personal invitation to cast their votes).

The new elected chairpersons will come into office in Lisbon, August 2010 at the General Meeting of the ISHS organised on the occasion of the 2010 International Horticultural Congress.
