Department of Horticultural Science of Kyungpook National University in South Korea invites applications for a tenure track appointment in the field of Horticultural Crop Physiology at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin September, 2018. Applicants are expected to have a strong background in horticultural crop physiology that addresses fundamental questions in these fields. Postdoctoral and teaching experience is preferred.
The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in studying basic concepts in horticultural crop physiology to address critical or emerging scientific questions.
KNU has about 1,170 full time faculties, 21,600 undergraduate students and 5,794 graduate students in Daegu, South Korea. Daegu city is one of the metropolitan cities in the southeast area of Korea with a population of 2.5 million. The Department of Horticultural Science was awarded in excess of ＄10 million in federal funding in 2016-2017, and it includes 12 plus faculty with broad research interests in the horticultural sciences.
The laboratory space associated with the position is located in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences that houses interdisciplinary basic horticultural research groups from several colleges, including th Brain Korea (BK) 21 plus program to financially support graduate students' study. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive startup package (~$80,000) in a year and will participate in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate student levels.
Candidates must not be Korean citizens and have a Ph.D. degree from outside of Korea. Knowledge of Korean is not required. A Ph.D. in horticultural sciences or closely related field is required prior to the start of the appointment, as is commitment to developing a vigorous externally funded research program and the quality teaching and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.

(1) Salary commensurate with experience. It respects the regulations of the University and non-negotiable. The minimum starting salary is 60M won per year (about ＄55K/year when the current exchange rate, 1 USD to 1,060 Won, is applied). Average salary of assistant and associate professor in Kyungpook National University are around 78M and 89M Won.
(2) Other benefits as a regular faculty member, which include medical insurance and pension, etc.
(3) A faculty apartment in campus will be provided (32.94m² for single, 61.75m² for couple, and 105.94m² for family).
