The College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) at Washington State University seeks a distinguished academic leader to be Chair of the Department of Horticulture.

Applications are invited for a full-time, 12-month tenure-eligible position at the Full Professor level to begin June 1, 2022, or as negotiated, at the Pullman, WA campus.

Responsibilities: The Chair will be an individual with outstanding academic credentials who can articulate and execute a clear, shared vision for leading and developing the Department, while promoting a broadly shared sense of collegiality, mutual respect, and support within the Department, college, and university.

The successful candidate is expected to have a record of excellence in conducting and promoting undergraduate and graduate education.
The successful candidate is expected to engage in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and may sustain an active research program complementary to existing Department and college strengths.
The Chair's portfolio will include fiscal management of the Department, promoting professional development of faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students statewide, engagement with faculty located at Research and Extension Centers, and participation in stakeholder meetings across the state.

Required qualifications:
1) A Ph.D. degree in a fundamental area of plant science, or a related discipline; and
2) Demonstrated record of success in unit leadership and fiscal and personnel management in a department, program, or highly diverse scientific or academic unit.

Preferred qualifications:
1) Excellent interpersonal communication skills including ability to articulate and implement a strategic vision, demonstrate evidence-based decision making, and critically evaluate program impact;
2) Demonstrated successful commitment to the recruitment, retention, development, and enrichment of a diverse faculty, staff, and student community;
3) Commitment to promotion of value, inclusion, and respect for gender, sexual orientation/identity, race, culture, and nationality diversity among faculty, staff, and students;
4) Demonstrated effectiveness in developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate level courses in horticultural science or related areas;
5) Demonstrated commitment to professional education at all levels and promotion of a positive workplace culture;
6) Demonstrated successful engagement with industry and/or community stakeholders; and
7) Internationally recognized, extramurally funded research activity with disciplinary leadership complementary to existing Department and college strengths.
