About the Role

Joining the Agronomy and Soil Science team in the School of Environmental and Rural Science will give you the opportunity to work with talented researchers across the fields of Animal Science, Botany, Earth Sciences, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Management, Plant Science and Zoology to strengthen the University's research, teaching and training capacity in sustainable agricultural production. Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences at UNE is ranked 5 out of 5 - Well above World Standards - according to Excellence in Research for Australia 2018. Our team is seeking an innovative and collaborative researcher to contribute to our well-established and popular teaching programs, and develop an outstanding research profile working in a supportive and dynamic environment.

The role includes face to face and online teaching at first, second- and third-year levels, and the supervision of students at Honours, postgraduate coursework and higher degree research level. Applicants are expected to be actively publishing high-quality and high-impact research and to attract external research funding to the University. Service expectations will be commensurate with the level of the role including active participation in School, Faculty or University Committees, and administrative roles as well as service to the wider community and profession.

Skills and Experience

The successful appointee will have a PhD awarded within the last 5 years (or near completion) in controlled environment cropping, plant breeding or a relevant discipline, and experience and interest in the delivery of high-quality tertiary-level teaching.. We are looking for applicants who are able to provide high-quality curricula, teaching and assessment in the fields of controlled environment cropping, horticulture and plant breeding to enhance student learning using modern teaching technology, resources and pedagogy appropriate to on-campus and online delivery modes. Applicants should have a demonstrated research portfolio and be willing to build or participate in collaborations with other researchers in the environmental, agricultural, sustainability and biological sciences.
