The Atlantic Forest biome in Brazil has great biodiversity, despite considerable degradation suffered by anthropological action. The Laboratory of Post-Harvesting of Horticultural Crops of ESALQ / USP has been dedicated to the study of native fruits of this biome. Based on the physicochemical quality analysis previously carried out in the study of cambuci, uvaia, grumixama and cherry of Rio Grande, accessions with relevant characteristics will be selected for in natura consumption, processing and / or obtainment of nutraceutical compounds.
It is expected the selection from 5 to 10 plants of each species. For this first selection, multivariate statistical analysis (principal component analysis) will be used to evaluate the simultaneous effect of the quality attributes of the fruits from each plant. The fruits will be submitted to characterization analysis regarding functional and nutritional aspects. The fruits frozen during the harvests will be analyzed for the identification and quantification of flavonoids; antioxidant activity by ORAC and online by HPLC-DAD; centesimal and mineral compositions; organic acid contents, ascorbic acid, total soluble sugars, carotenoids, total anthocyanins; as well as analysis of soluble and total tannins.
Candidates must have proven ability to conduct post-harvest fruit quality experiments, knowledge of laboratory techniques for physicochemical analysis, gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, and univariate / multivariate statistical analysis.
Applications will be received exclusively by e-mail, with the attached documentation. Applications must be addressed to Dr. Angelo Pedro Jacomino ( until December 21st, 2017. For the application, we require:
1- Letter showing your interest;
2- Summary CV, presenting the academic formation, publications, and information that prove scientific experience in the project area;
3- Indication of names and e-mails of two people as references.
The selection will be made based on the documents presented and a maximum of 5 candidates will be selected for personal interview or via Skype, where the abilities in the issues will be verified and also other commonalities will be discussed.
