The Department of Horticulture and Food Technology, Campus Weihenstephan (Freising), invites ap-plications for the position of a

Professor in "Sustainable Horticultural Management" (salary group W2, tenured position) expected to start in the winter semester 2022/23 or commencing as soon as possible.

Responsibilities in Teaching and Research:
Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences seeks to appoint a candidate for a profes-sorship, which involves a high proportion of research. In practice, this means that the position entails a reduced teaching load, which may amount to a maximum of 50 percent of regular teaching duties. The reduced teaching load is initially limited to a period of five years with the option of a further ex-tension period.

Our society increasingly demands sustainability in plant production as well as a healthy and health-sustaining nutrition. We consider digitalization to be the essential tool to ensure the production of healthy food based on a less extensive use of resources. By setting up this research professorship, Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences is strengthening horticultural production and urban horticulture through the promotion of applied research and the establishment of the new teach-ing area automation and digitalization which highlights sustainable economic and behavioral policies.

Applied research of this professorship will center on irrigation and fertilization technologies and their adaptation to climatic conditions as well as the needs of plants. Furthermore, the professorship will develop in-house and industry-wide solutions such as energy management systems for horticultural companies or scientific databases for interrelated producing regions.

Focusing on the digitalization of horticultural outdoor production, the professorship will be responsi-ble for teaching subjects ranging from digital technologies to complex management systems pertain-ing to the sustainable production of healthy food. In addition to conveying the basics of innovative sensor and actuator technology as well as robotics and their realization in the form of IT services, the incumbent will teach the use of specific applications for horticultural outdoor production based on practical examples and current research subjects. The professorship shall offer courses and teach basic information and methods in the field of sustainable horticultural management in both the under-graduate and postgraduate study programs of our university. This includes both the teaching of al-ready established courses and the development of new teaching modules, for example "Sustainable Irrigation Management".

The university expects the successful candidate to play an active role in the further development of applied research. Responsibilities of the professorship include the supervision of internships, project papers and theses, teaching courses in English language as well as participation in academic self-administration. The ability to teach specialized topics in adjacent fields of research is highly desired. Your Profile:
Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences is looking for a candidate who holds a uni-versity degree and – ideally – a doctoral degree in horticulture. We expect applicants to have com-prehensive knowledge in sustainable and resource-friendly production methods, expertise in the field of irrigation and fertilization management as well as in the field of automation and digitalization with a preference for horticultural outdoor production. In addition, successful applicants have acquired basic knowledge in software engineering and in hardware technologies, including modern communication technologies pertaining to M2M applications.

The university asks applicants to submit documentation of the successful acquisition and coordina-tion of third-party funded research projects with a high practical relevance. The university furthermore expects that applicants enjoy teaching and working with students.

Requirements:
1. completed first university degree,
2. pedagogical aptitude,
3. particular ability for scientific and scholarly work as proven by a doctoral degree or comparable academic qualification (in German: "Gutachten über promotionsadäquate Leistungen").
4. Furthermore, we require expertise in the application or development of scientific findings and methods obtained during a period of at least five years of professional practice after graduation from university. Of these, at least three years must be in a field outside university. Professional experience outside university might be recognized, if the candidate has spent a significant part of the position working in a cooperation between university and non-university institutions for a mini-mum of 5 years.
