Regional Director West and Central Africa

The World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) is a non-profit, autonomous international agricultural research center with headquarters in Taiwan and five regional offices around the globe. WorldVeg seeks a Regional Director to manage its research and development work in West and Central Africa. The Regional Director reports to the Director General and will be based at WorldVeg's regional center in Cotonou, Benin.

The responsibilities:
1. Represent WorldVeg on behalf of the Director General, supporting the Center's vision and mission and contributing to greater visibility and engagement in the region.
2. Establish dynamic partnerships with national, regional and international partners, governments, private sector and funders to catalyze greater investment in vegetable research and development in the region.
3. Lead the Center's resource mobilization and communication efforts for the region aiming for substantial growth in regional operations.
4. Create a pleasant and productive work environment and provide general oversight to all R&D activities of the Center in the region, whilst adhering to WorldVeg policies and regulations.
5. Contribute to cross-regional learning and knowledge sharing within WorldVeg.
6. Lead risk management, emergency response and business continuity efforts related to Center operations in the region.
7. Monitor host country agreements and initiate review and renewal as required; optimize the benefits provided by the host country for effective and efficient operations of the Center.
8. Ensure appropriate review/due diligence is done on compliance issues including reporting to the concerned agencies, as required.
9. Undertake any other duties as required by the needs of the Center and as reviewed from time to time by the Director General.

The Person:
Enthusiastic team builder able to create a dynamic environment for innovation and scaling. Excellent communicator with a proactive attitude towards engaging with policy and decision-makers and public and private sector partners to realize the potential of vegetables for healthier lives and more resilient livelihoods. Applicants must have at least an MSc degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, health and nutrition or social sciences and a minimum of 10 years of experience in coordinating R&D efforts, with demonstrated leadership capability in an international, multidisciplinary and multicultural environment and with a track record of fundraising. The position will require occasional travel to countries in the region. Proficiency in written and spoken French and English is essential. Experience in the region will be an advantage.

The Reward:
This is an Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) position with competitive pay and benefits. The initial appointment is for three years and may be extended depending on performance of the incumbent and availability of resources.
