Telfairia occidentalis, some three decades ago, was a locally-grown vegetable for south eastern Nigeria. In recent times, it has assumed a phenomenal broad acceptance and it is now a universal leafy vegetable all over Nigeria. This paper has analysed the research and development efforts made on the crop and the documentation trend of the research results. The media of documentation employed by the scientists include journals, conference proceedings, reports, etc. The specific areas addressed were growth of the literature, publication type, author collaboration, subject focus, and characteristics of the research conducted. The study focuses on the Library and Information Science field in the web of databases covering the 1996-2010 period. The analysis in this paper relates to counts of publications in the different research disciplines covering seed studies, growth and development, fertilizer trials, processing, nutritive values, etc. The occurrence of publications in the different media were also analyzed and the result indicated a trend of more articles in journals (65%), conference proceedings (24%), reports (11%) while patents and monographs have not figured widely in the scientific literature. The scientific output on T. occidentalis has grown exponentially thus contributing a lot to the wide recognition the crop is enjoying nationwide. The literature is clearly noticed and has generated high interest within the scientific community.
