BREEDING TOMATOES FOR PUREE AND PASTE

E.C. Tigchelaar
Tomato breeding programs have generally stressed the major horticultural attributes which contribute to higher yield, however, in the past decade there has been a growing interest in fruit quality attributes which contribute to improved quality and/or case yield. This has resulted in development of cultivars suited to specific processed products rather than multipurpose cultivars adapted to multiple processing and fresh market uses.
