LONGAN PRODUCTION AND RESEARCH IN CHINA

Longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) is one of the most important subtropical fruit trees indigenous to South China. Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and Chinese Taipei are the major producing areas in China. This paper reviews the major problems in longan production and research during the past 5 years in China. The topics cover the latest developments in production, germplasm resources and breeding, biotechnology, biological and physiological studies and cultural practices for sustainable high yield and quality. Diseases, pests and postharvest handling are also discussed.
