Fifteen-year-old ‘Shuangjianyuhebao’ litchi trees were grafted as rootstock to determine the effects on rootstock-scion combination of 28 different scion cultivars. The results indicated that the graft survival percentage and vegetative growth were greatly improved in the cultivars ‘Jingganghongnuo’, ‘Maguili’, ‘Lingshanxiangli’ and ‘Feizixiao’, of which both ‘Maguili’ and ‘Lingshanxiangli’ showed improvement in flowering and fruit set. Early maturing selections ‘D13’, ‘D11’, ‘9919’, ‘99112’ and ‘9918’ grew well, but flowering and fruit set were very poor. Some litchi cultivars showed significant incompatibility, such as ‘Qinzhouhongli’, ‘Nuomici’, ‘Guiwei’, ‘Sanyuehong’, ‘Guinuo’ and ‘Hongmili’.
