EFFECTS OF SUCROSE CONCENTRATIONS ON SEEDLING GROWTH OF DENDROBIUM ANTENNATUM × DENDROBIUM BIGIBBUM

This study examined the effects of sucrose concentrations on the growth of Dendrobium antennatum × Dendrobium bigibbum seedlings. The seedling explants were cultured on semi-solid Hyponex medium containing sucrose (0, 20, 30, 40 and 60 g/L) for 2 months. The maximum growth of D. antennatum × D. bigibbum was found on seedlings cultured on medium supplemented with 20 g/L sucrose. Where the results from maximum fresh weight, dry weight, and stem height were 0.399 g, 0.0273 g, and 1.62 cm, respectively. Moreover the number of new shoots per explants and the number of roots was positively directly related to sucrose concentration, but root length was inversely related.
