ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF USING DUPONTTM EVALIO® AGROSYSTEMS FOR GROWING OF PROCESSING TOMATOES IN ITALY

Insect pests such as Tuta absoluta or Helicoverpa armigera pose a significant threat to the production of processing tomatoes in Italy. Without accurate pest monitoring, pest outbreaks are difficult to prevent and can result in significant yield losses. However, with Evalio® AgroSystems, DuPont offers a free insect monitoring tool that allows growers to choose the most appropriate application timing for maximum control of insect pests. The present study examined the amount of insect damage to tomatoes resulting from production methods with and without Evalio® AgroSystems support. Moreover, the financial and environmental effect of Evalio® AgroSystems for growing processing tomatoes was analysed. Evalio® AgroSystems support helped to reduce the frequency of insect damage, the amount of water consumption and CO2 emissions, and resulted in financial savings of € 468.27/ha.
