THE U.S. NATIONAL ARBORETUM HAS A NEW INTERACTIVE GRAPHICAL DATABASE OF PLANTS
The U.S. National Arboretum has implemented a new graphical database of all mapped plants on the grounds of the arboretum.
The new interface allows any member of the public to locate over 30,000 plants using interactive maps, view thousands of plant images, explore the grounds through featured tours, find dedicated trees and benches, search for specimens in the herbarium, and plant a visit using the my Visit feature (Fig. 1). This new interactive database is of significance to researchers and the floral and nursery industry because it greatly improves access to scientific information about plant material conserved at the U.S. National Arboretum.
In addition, the database benefits members of the public and educators by making information available that will improve the quality of their visit and demonstrate the nature and details of preserved germplasm at the Arboretum .
