GENETIC ANALYSIS OF RESISTANCE TO BACTERIAL WILT AND VERTICILLIUM WILT IN EGGPLANT ROOTSTOCK GERMPLASMS

The eggplant rootstock germplasms JA01, JA02, JB61 and JB62 with different levels of resistance to bacterial wilt and/or verticillium wilt, and the cultivated species Rf, were used to construct F1 generation groups by the method of reciprocal crossing. The root dip inoculation method was applied to the seedlings of the F1 generation to identify levels of resistance to these two diseases. The hybrid vigor of the F1 generation was analyzed using the disease index after the infection of Ralstonia solanacearum and Verticillium dahlia. Results indicate that the rootstock germplasm JA02 could be a suitable parent if the breeding target was resistance to Ralstonia solanacearum and Verticillium dahlia; JA01 could be a suitable parent if the breeding target was resistance to Ralstonia solanacearum; and JA02 and the cultivar Rf could be suitable parents, if the breeding target was resistance to Verticillium dahlia. Data of these rootstock germplasms indicate breeding for disease resistance to these two pathogens is productive future work.
