NUTRITIONAL PARAMETERS OF CHINESE BROCCOLI (BRASSICA OLERACEA VAR. ALBOGLABRA) UNDER ORGANIC GROWING CONDITIONS

T. Kopta, R. Pokluda
The five cultivars of Chinese broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra) were tested during 2008 and 2009 in the system of certified organic production. The analyses of crude fibre, ascorbic acid, total carotenoids, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and total antioxidant capacity TAC were done in edible parts. The fibre content within all cultivars was significant (2-4.2 g 100 g-1 fm). According to the obtained results it can be concluded that among the tested cultivars the highest content of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) was found in ‘Suiho’ (an average of 810 mg kg-1), ‘Green Lance’ (776 mg kg-1), and ‘Happy Rich’ (598 mg kg-1). Higher potassium content was observed in rather later cultivars ‘Green Lance’ (4943 mg kg-1 in 2008) or in ‘Happy Rich’ (5355 mg kg-1 in 2008). Highest calcium content was analysed in the ‘Hon Tsai Tai’ (704 mg kg-1 in 2008) and magnesium content in ‘Happy Rich’ (136 mg kg-1 in 2009) and ‘Green Lance’ (133 mg kg-1 in 2009). The highest value of TAC was found in ‘Green Lance’ (1.09 µmol trolox g-1 fm). As prospective, according to the monitored substances content, cultivars ‘Green Lance’, ‘Happy Rich’ or ‘Suiho’ can be considered.
