EFFECT OF STORAGE TEMPERATURES OF TWIJFELMATEN OF IRIS BULBS ON FLOWERING AND BULB PRODUCTION

J. Schipper
The reduction of flowering and increase in bulb production of twijfelmaten (size 7–8 cm) of iris cultivars Prof Blaauw and Ideal were studied on the basis of storage-temperature treatments. For both cultivars at constant temperatures a positive correlation was found between storage temperatures and flowering, whereas there was a negative correlation between storage temperature and bulb production. High temperatures for two weeks directly after lifting had almost no effect on flowering and bulb production. The results of studies with low temperatures followed by two weeks of high temperature prior to planting were not reproducible.
