Uptake and accumulation of dry matter and mineral nutrients in different age trees of 'Nanguo' pear (Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim)
'Nanguo' pear (Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim) is a local cultivar with good quality and accounts for an important share of pear industry in China.
It is important to understand the accumulation of dry matter and mineral nutrients of fruit trees in order to give effective fertilizer recommendations.
We measured the dry weight, N, P, K, Ca and Mg content of fruit, leaves, branches, trunk and roots of 'Nanguo' pear (Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim) trees, aged of 1, 5 and 10 years, destructively in a temperate zone of China.
Total dry weight increased from a mean of 0.16 kg tree-1 for 1-year-old trees to 13.37 kg tree-1 for 5-year-old trees and 37.26 kg tree-1 for 10-year-old trees, but in contrast, the root/shoot ratio decreased from 0.58 for 1-year-old trees to 0.32 for 5-year-old trees and 0.31 for 10-year-old trees.
The 'Nanguo' pear trees accumulated a higher ratio of N and Ca, and a lower ratio of P and K as age increased.
The N uptake of 1-, 5- and 10-year-old 'Nanguo' pear trees was 0.69, 24.25 and 89.46 kg ha-1, respectively.
There were significant differences of N, P, K, Ca, Mg uptake and accumulation in different ages and different yields.
The implications for fertilizer management are discussed in different ages and different yields.
