Side-dressing fertilization on strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) 'Aromas' at three locations in Huaura Valley - Peru
Strawberry growers at Huaura Valley in Peru use to side-dress strawberries twice.
The last one occurs two-three months before harvest initiation.
No base fertilization is practiced.
A third side-dressing of NPKMgZn was applied at three different locations at Huaura Valley 11-12 days before harvest started.
This additional side-dressing increased yields: increasing daily harvest in a longer period than usual.
Yield increases ranged from 14 to 43% among the three locations.
The lowest yield obtained with the current fertilization was 40.1 t ha-1 and the highest yield with an extra side-dressing fertilization was 71.6 t ha-1. A third side-dressing fertilization is a good option to increase yield and therefore profitability for strawberry growers at Huaura Valley.
