Development of cryopreservation techniques in ornamental crops
A key feature of floriculture is the diversity of products and the speed of change. Floricultural industry requires reliable ways to keep their plant materials for their breeding programs and business. Cryopreservation of plants has developed as a tool for long-term preservation of plant genetic resources. The important technical point of cryopreservation is the dehydration of plant tissue without the loss of their viability. Cryopreservation methods have developed from the slow-freezing method, the vitrification method, the droplet method, the encapsulation method, and the cryo-plate method. Their development has improved three points; stability of survival, applicability to diverse plant species and operability of technique. The cryopreservation techniques will be used routinely as a part of plant providing systems, as well as genetic resources preservation in ornamental crops.
