Effects of paclobutrazol on flower induction and fruit production of off-season rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum Linn. 'Rongrien')

Paclobutrazol (PBZ) was applied as foliar sprays to 10-year-old rambutan trees at the rate of 0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 ppm. The experiment was conducted at the local orchards in Cha-oat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province from July, 2011 to January, 2012 for off-season flower induction of 'Rongrien' rambutan production in Thailand. The results showed that PBZ at 500, 750 and 1000 ppm could induce flowering earlier than control and increasing flower percentage, fruit weight, number of fruit per cluster better than control. The effects of PBZ was found to reduce shoot length, panicle length and leaf area of rambutan as compared to control, but the PBZ had no effects to the total soluble solid (TSS) of aril.
