United States National Initiative for Consumer Horticulture: a strategic plan
There are many effective local, state and regional consumer horticulture programs but no national organization or vision that links efforts across the United States. As a result there has been limited success in securing federal funding and national sponsors. The National Initiative for Consumer Horticulture (NICH) has been created to develop a national strategic plan for Consumer Horticulture. In order to research stakeholder interest in and potential support of NICH, a variety of strategies were used to gather information. Face to face meetings, webinars and conference calls were conducted with participants representing different stakeholder groups. Outcomes include a defined mission, vision, core values, goals and objective for the initiative. Next steps include finalizing the strategic plan, selecting an organizational structure, and selecting leadership.
