This study was conducted to investigate the effect of different 1-MCP doses on quality properties and vase life on Rosa hybrida 'First Red' that is grown in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Roses were held in water after harvest and then 100 and 200 nL L-1 doses of 1-MCP treatment were appllied for 6 h at 20°C in 1 m3 chambers. Roses that were kept in the same conditions without any application were used as control. After treatments, flowers were stored for three weeks at 4°C and 70% RH in a solution of 1% (w/v) sugar, a biocide and an acidifier. Quality determinations were done weekly intervals and additional vase life conditions also evaluated. The results of this research showed that both 1-MCP treatments reduced decay after storage and increased the vase life of roses. It was found that the Rosa hybrida 'First Red' cultivar can be stored 21 days at 4°C and 70% relative humidity in the solution of 1% sucrose better than control.
