APRICOTS — WORLD PRODUCTION AND MARKETS WAYS

W. Mante
Within the international literature on apricots economical questions just find a secondary interest. Then, marketing economy is playing the first part, whereas every 12th publication in the utmost deals with questions of farm economy. The economical publications are just come from a few countries, mainly from the United States, but today also from those of Southeast Europe. The low interest is even accentuated by the fact that only about half of all publications is concerning apricots exclusively and that just every ninth deals with questions beyond national problems. This is a very astonishing fact as the value of the world apricot production comes to approximately 200 million US dollars. The commercial value might be considerably higher regarding the important role of exports especially of processed products.

The lack of comparable statistics will be the reason for the restriction of scientific publications within the national frame. At least the FAO Production Yearbook includes apricot production. The Trade Yearbook, however, does not regard apricots especially. Thus, an almost complete survey on the international apricot market is only possible within the production area; regarding marketing, just by using examples.
