Identification and release of an extra early maturity mango (Mangifera indica L.) cultivar 'Arka Neelachal Kesari'
'Arka Neelachal Kesari', a clonal selection of mango 'Gulabkhas', has been identified as an extra early maturing (third week of March to first week of April) cultivar with attractive colour to bridge the gap of variety producing fruit with attractive peel and mild sweetness for early market.
Fruits are ovate oblique with 9-10 cm length and 200-250 g weight.
Fruits attain golden yellow peel with red blush on shoulders after maturity.
Peel of the fruits is thin and smooth; pulp firm and attractive golden yellow having slight fibers.
Pulp content (w/w) ranges from 49 to 51. Fruits are very good to taste with 21% TSS and 0.17% acidity in juice.
This is a high yielding cultivar with 84 kg fruit yield tree-1 from a grown up tree of twelve years age.
In organoleptic rating at hedonic scale (0 to 9) for five attributes, mango cultivar 'Arka Neelachal Kesari' scored 42 out of 45 points.
The identification and release of this cultivar for cultivation in east coast of India has been discussed.
