THE USE OF GROWTH REGULATORS IN A HEDGEROW SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR MECHANICAL HARVESTING BY "COMBING"
The achievement of successful mechanical harvesting of dessert apples is most likely by matching the development of a growing system with that of the machine.
At Long Ashton our objective has been to develop a narrow hedgerow system with the use of growth regulators for use with an over-row harvesting machine which uses a new method of 'combing' apples from the tree.
This film presentation showed the features of the growing system necessary for successful picking and the harvesting test-rig in operation in the hedgerow.
