Effect of pre-treatment of stock plants with ethrel and cycocel on the rooting of air layers in waterapple

An investigation was carried out to study the effect of pre-treatment of stock plants on the rooting of air layers in waterapple by using growth substances in a randomized block design at the university research station. The possibility of promoting the rooting of air layered shoots in waterapple by suppressing the growth of stock plant was investigated in the present experiment. The findings revealed that pre-treatment of stock plants with ethrel (250 ppm) or cycocel (1000 ppm) followed by treatment with IBA alone or in conjugation with PHB was found effective in increasing rooting and other improved characters. Preharvest of stock plants with ethrel (250 ppm) followed by application of (IBA 5000 ppm + PHB 200 ppm) have shown 100% rooting success with 75% plant survivability. This treatment also produced maximum roots per layers (33.20) and length of root was (14.92 cm).
