Genotypes of Italian strawberries with potential for cultivation in Brazil
The strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) is cultivated in all continents. In Brazil the states of Minas Gerais, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul are the main producers of strawberry, however, for the advance of its cultivation in the country is essential the introduction of new cultivars that allow more production and better quality of the fruits. In this sense, the objective of this work is to divulge the first research results evaluating Italian strawberry genotypes in the region of South Plateau of Santa Catarina. The experiment was carried out at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary of the Santa Catarina State University (CAV/UDESC), in Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The evaluated genotypes were: Pircinque, Aromas, Garda and the selections FRF 85.4 rif and FRF 149.18 rif. The seedlings were transplanted in low tunnels with polyethylene film mulching and drip irrigation. The experimental design was a randomized block design with four plots and an experimental unit composed of 10 plants. The variables analyzed were: total number of fruits per plant, production, total productivity, fresh mass of fruit, soluble solids content, titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio, pulp firmness, fresh and dry mass determination of different plant parts. The data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and when significant, the means were compared by the LSD test at 5% probability of error. Under the study conditions, it was observed that the two selections, FRF 85.4 rif and FRF 149.18 rif do not express the same productive and qualitative potential as the others. The cultivar Pircinque stood out as promising for the cultivation under the study conditions, because it was observed a good vegetative development that conferred a high productivity, with a higher proportion of commercial production, higher fresh mass and a better SS/AT ratio.
