Determination of effects of some clonal rootstocks on morphological and pomological properties of 'Hacıhaliloğlu' and 'Kabaaşı' apricot cultivars
Malatya province with about 8 million apricot trees and average 450 thousand tons of annual production quantity is the first place in Turkey. Hacıhaliloğlu and Kabaaşı dried apricot cultivars constitute 95% of the apricot tree in the province. The orchards grown dried apricots are established with the cultivars showing strong development and seedling rootstocks showing strong growth in a wide ranges. Although there are advantages to this situation, there are problems such as less product than unit area and some cultural processes (harvesting, pest control etc.). In recent years, the use of dwarf rootstocks is recommended in order to overcome this problem in modern fruit growing. In our study, in order to improve the fruit quality properties in Hacıhaliloğlu and Kabaaşı cultivars, high density planting possibilities were investigated. For this purpose, the morphological developments and pomological properties were determined using Pixy, Marianna 2624, Myrobolan 29-C, Myrobolan, GF-31, Kayısı Eriği clonal rootstocks and as control Tokaloğlu Erzincan seedling rootstock on Hacıhaliloğlu and Kabaaşı cultivars. Pixy and Marianna 2624 clonal rootstocks in both Hacıhaliloğlu and Kabaaşı cultivars were found to be smaller height and smaller Crown volume than other rootstocks. In Hacıhaliloğlu cultivar, Myrobolan GF-31 showed strong improvement, while Myrobolan 29-C and Kayısı eriği showed standard development. In Kabaaşı cultivar, Myrobolan 29-C and Myrobolan GF-31 showed standard development.
