Assessment of cold resistance through photosynthetic properties of intergeneric hybrids between longan and litchi
In order to reveal the relationship between the photosynthetic properties and cold resistance of the intergeneric hybrids between longan and litchi, D. longana 'Shixia', L. chinensis 'Ziniangxi' and 33 'Shixia' × 'Ziniangxi' intergeneric hybrids were used as materials.
The lethal dose-50 temperature (LT50) was used to evaluate the cold resistance of all accessions, which was calculated by measuring the electric conductivity of leaves under different low temperature treatment.
The net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters were measured in autumn and winter, respectively.
The results showed that compared with measured data in autumn, the net photosynthetic rate (Pn), actual photochemical efficiency of system II (Y(II)), photochemical quenching coefficient (qP) decreased significantly in winter, while non-photochemical quenching coefficient (NPQ) and the quantum yield of light-induced non-photochemical fluorescence quenching Y(NPQ) increased significantly.
Furthermore, LT50 has a significant negative correlation with Pn, Y(II) and qP in winter, and a significant positive correlation with Y(NPQ) in winter.
It showed that the net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters had significant correlation with the cold resistance of the intergeneric hybrids.
These indicated that the photosynthetic parameters could be used as indexes to identify the cold resistance of longan and litchi.
