Acoustic diagnostics of phytopathogenic damage of the trunk wood of Magnolia grandiflora L.
The level of phytopathogenic damage of the trunk wood of the most old-aged specimens of Magnolia grandiflora L. of the Arboretum of the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens was assessed using ultrasound tomography. Digital two-dimensional images of trunk wood tissues have been obtained, the characteristics of the relative indicators of the degree of its destruction are given. The results of the studies have revealed some regularities in the nature of the spread of destruction in the trunk wood of M. grandiflora. It is established that of the six studied specimens of M. grandiflora, two trees planted in 1895, growing in the Upper Park of the Arboretum, are subjected to the greatest destruction of trunk wood. Destruction is more prone to the basal part of a tree, which is associated with the development of wood-destroying fungi. There was no dependence of the presence and degree of destruction of M. grandiflora trunk wood on the age of the studied trees. Application of ultrasound tomography method expands the possibilities of diagnostics of phytopathogenic damage of trunk wood.
