The genus Begomovirus includes more than 380 viruses that are harmful pathogens of vegetable and field crops. The Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) is a quarantine pest for the Russian Federation, the Eurasian Economic Union and the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization. It is generally recognized that the identification of Begomoviruses to the species level is associated with specific difficulties due to the high identity of their genome. Here, we present the results of testing and validation of 15 pairs of universal and specific primers used in the world practice for diagnostics of TYLCV, TYLCSV, ToLCNDV and Begomovirus spp. by conventional PCR and real-time PCR. The test objects were isolates of TYLCV, TYLCSV, ToLCNDV, ACMV, and BGMV.
