Biodiversity of distant hybrids of cereals in the collection of the Tsitsin MBG RAS

The article considers the results of the research on wheat distant hybridization with its wild and cultural relatives in particular with wheatgrass, elymus and rye species conducted in the Department of Distant Hybridization of the MBG. The large hybrid fund including various wheat-wheatgrass and wheat-elymus hybrids of both intermediate and wheat type was created during the hybridization of different wheat cultivars with wild-growing cereals with subsequent backcrossing. A new agricultural crop was created - trititrigia, adaptive high-quality cultivars of common wheat and triticale were obtained. The hybrid material including forms with a different number of chromosomes, with translocations from wild cereals and with various combinations of valuable for breeding traits, is of great interest both for practical breeding and for genetic research.
