RELATIONS BETWEEN DENSITY, YIELD AND PROFITABILITY OF APPLE ORCHARDS
The productive crown volume of the 5 planting systems greatly differ. The best yield was obtained from spindle trees inspite of the higher specific productivity of slender-spindle trees having less crown volume per tree and per ha.
The costs of establishment conserning the density of 1 250 trees/ha are double of the one with 317 trees/ha.
Average farm price and profit in relation to the skin-colouring and harvest injuries are the most favourable in slender-spindle plantations.
Among the orchards of different density slender-spindle of 1 250 trees/ha has the best profit index followed by the spindle trees.
The efficiency of hand picking - having great importance for the large-scale production of Hungary - is also outstanding in slender-spindle orchards.
The experimental data proof that the density higher than 1 250 trees/ha is not generaly reasonable under the Hungarian conditions.
