Types of incompatibility used in the process of pollination and fertilization of blackberry flowers (Rubus L. subgen. Rubus)

During a four-year study on the incompatibility of blackberries, it was shown that there are three types of incompatibility that complement each other. These are sporophyte incompatibility (no fertilization), sporophyte incompatibility with partial SI gene breakage (fertilization up to 10%), and incompatibility conditioned by the genes responsible for the acceptance of the utricle by the ovule (fertilization from 20 to 80%). Nevertheless, complete lack of incompatibility 100% fertilization was also observed. Fertilization involving all ovules should be the basic principle used in the breeding of new cultivars. During four years of blackberry flowering observations, 40 breeding clones and 6 cultivars were examined under the microscope. Of this group, 9 clones had tight sporophytic incompatibility, 6 clones had mutations in the SI gene, slightly reduced fertilization depending on the clone from 20 to 80%. In contrast, 11 clones were completely devoid of all types of incompatibilities. Of the 11 clones, there are exactly three groups of incompatibilities and a group of clones which pollen tubes grow into the ovary and fertilization takes place.
