Effects of benzylaminopurine and liquid fertilizer application on lateral branch development and the yield of raspberry Heritage
In the cultivation of raspberry (Rubus idaeus) Heritage in Akita, Japan, it is recommended that the lateral branches extending from suckers be cut.
However, since the harvest period is short (1 month starting in early August), we considered letting one lateral branch grow and using it to extend the harvest period and increase the yield.
Benzylaminopurine (BA) at concentrations of 7.5, 60, and 600 mg L‑1 was sprayed on the leaves.
Whereas lateral branch development was accelerated by foliar application of BA at a concentration of 600 mg L‑1, phytotoxicity occurred due to high BA concentration.
Since many of the individual plants with elongated lateral branches failed to flower bud, there was a need for further investigation of the timing of letting the lateral branches develop and the environment of lateral branch cultivation.
Then, 200 mL of a 500-fold dilution of Hyponex solution was applied to the ground.
In individual plants that developed lateral branches with Hyponex irrigation, the yields were investigated after foliar spraying with a 2000-fold dilution of Phosplus and a 645-fold dilution of Hanakojo.
Overall, 95% of the raspberry plants developed lateral branches after Hyponex irrigation, showing that it was an efficient method for lateral branch development.
There was no difference in yield depending on the type of fertilizer sprayed on the leaves.
In future work, we plan to investigate the method and duration of liquid fertilizer application, and their effects on the yield.
