CLIMATE AND FIREBLIGHT: BILLING'S "SYSTEM I" TESTED UNDER DANISH CONDITIONS AND COMPUTERIZED FOR OPERATIONAL USE

The potential for predicting outbreaks of fireblight under Danish conditions by means of Billing's "System I" was examined for the years 1981 to 1983 in a co-operation between Institute of Plant Pathology and Agrometeorological Service, Danish Research Service for Plant and Soil Science.

For three locations output from Billing's "System I" was compared to weekly registrations of fireblight occurrence. The result indicate that the system has predictive value.

Billing's "System I" has been computerized for operational use. The system can be used operationally for 10 synoptic stations scattered over Denmark.

Examinations in progress of Billing's "System I" and plans for a future operational fireblight warning service based on synoptic data are described.
