ROOTSTOCK EFFECTS ON THE VIGOUR AND CROPPING OF THE CULTIVAR PASSE CRASSANE

I. Miljkovic
In the semi-arid region of Croatia investigations were carried out in an experimental orchard on the growth and productivity of the pear cultivar Passe Crassane on Quince A and seedling Pyrus communis rootstocks in high-density plantings. The trees studied were from 16 to 24 years old. The between-row spacing was 2.5 m, the within-row spacing was 1.25 m for the trees On Quince A (3 200 trees/ha) and 1.5 m for the trees on seedlings (2 667 trees/ha). During the eight years of this study the trees grew well and cropped heavily with an average annual yield of 46.1 t/ha on Quince and 40.5 t/ha on seedlings. The yield on Quince was significantly higher than that on seedlings in five of the years. The average fruit weight varied according to yield and climatic conditions.
