VEGETABLES FOR PROCESSING - VARIETY EVALUATION AT CAMPDEN FOOD PRESERVATION RESEARCH ASSOCIATION

R.V. Billington
The poster illustrates the range of vegetable crops evaluated for freezing and canning quality annually at CFPRA. Work is undertaken either through field trials at Campden (vining peas, broad beans and dwarf green beans) or in liaison with the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB) and selected Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food experimental stations at which NIAB trials are sited. Processing quality is assessed at Campden and collated with agronomic data obtained from Campden trials or via NIAB. Additional but less major work include examination of the influence of fertilizer application on brassica crops and lifting dates and storage of root crops on processing quality.
