INTRODUCTION OF PEACH CULTIVARS IN THE SLOVENE COASTAL REGION
In the Slovene Coastal Region with its two centres, Nova Gorica and Koper, peach and nectarine cultivars have been studied since 1958. During this time the studies comprised 388 cultivars, mainly those ones which can be grown in similar ecological conditions and which have a medium or high chilling requirement.
The results of the cultivar evaluation were reported at fruit-growing consultations on the occasion of the revision of variety list for Slovenia in the years 1962, 1967, 1972, 1978 and 1984. The variety list certified for the 1984 to 1988 period comprises 18 principal peach cultivars and 5 nectarine cultivars, 9 local or secondary peach cultivars, 4 nectarine cultivars, and for the testing, 11 cultivars and 6 national peach hybrids, 3 nectarine cultivars and 10 clingstone peach cultivars.
