PEACH GROWING AND GERMPLASM IN CHINA

The situation of peach growing, germplasm and commercial varieties were reviewed. The fact, that some wild species of peach still can be found in China convinced the author the original habitat of peach is China. In the recent years, chinese fruit resources exploring party found that the trees of Amygdalusmira can attain the height of 21 m, the trunk girth can be 10 m, it is estimated the oldest tree is aging nearly 1000 years. There are several varieties of this species grown in the east part of Tibet. The peach varieties grown in China are divided into 6 groups. The leading varieties were briefly described. China is going to develope its peach industry greatly.
