SIMPLY INHERITED GRAFTING INCOMPATIBILITY IN PEACH

G. Salesses, N. Al Kaï
An interspecific hybridization program is carried out at Bordeaux Fruit Breeding Station to synthesize new plum rootstocks for Peach; the main objectives are : water-logging tolerance and grafting compatibility with all peach varieties.

By comparative cytogenetics studies we have stated precisely the origin of the Damas de Toulouse (GF 1869) rootstock and created genomic copies among which improved hybrids have been selected.

This Damas rootstock shows a physiological incompatibility with most of the Nectarine varieties and some peaches.

A genetical study was carried out and we could show that incompatibility results from the action of two dominant genes, named I1 and I2 Varietiries bearing two dominant alleles (I1 or I2) are incompatible.
