THE INFLUENCE OF CERTAIN MICRO ELEMENTS ON THE YIELDS AND QUALITY OF TOMATOES GROWN IN GREENHOUSES

A. Botez, M. Dimitrescu
The influence of microelements as factors for increasing the yields of the intensive vegetable crops is of a particular importance, as compared to other agricultural crops. Researches in this connection carried out on a world-wide scale, have proved the specific influence of microelements, the dependence between the peculiarities of nutrition in the vegetable species and the effectiveness of these fertilizers. Best results were arrived at in the cultivation of tomatoes, with the application of iron, manganese and boron in ways other than through the roots - a method, found most beneficial from the economic point of view.

No explicit conclusions can be drawn, regarding the response of the various cultivars, within the limits of a given species. This being the reason that we proceeded to carry out experiments, introducing iron, manganese and boron, in different cultivars of tomatoes, with a view to determining the increase in the yields, which could be arrived at, as a result of the separate or combined activity of these microelements. Certain characteristic features of plants, grown in different conditions, as well as other factors, determining the level of the yields, were also studied.
