CERTAIN PROBLEMS OF THE ECONOMIC EFFECTIVENESS OF GREENHOUSE VEGETABLE GROWING IN BULGARIA
The main problem, however, is the general economic effectiveness and expedience of the development of this important branch of the country's agriculture.
The data given in table 1 will help to elucidate the problem. These data illustrate the rate of growth of certain basic indices in the development of this particular branch, in relation to the 1956/1958 period. They also show that in comparison to the initial period the greenhouse areas in the country grew 3.7 times in the 1959/1961 period. The basic production funds 2.7 times; the total production 2.8 times and the net production increased 2.2 times during this period. During the following periods, indicated in the table, 1962/1964 and 1965/1967, these indices showed an accretion in all cases, and the rates of growth were accelerated.
During the past decade, the average annual increase of greenhouse area grew by 30.2 per cent; the basic production funds by 27.1 per cent; that of the total production by 28.5 per cent, and the net production by 29 per cent.
The above data inevitably lead to the following inferences:
- The greenhouse vegetable production follows a line of continuous development, during the last ten years, due to which its economic importance increases rapidly.
- The average annual growth of the basic production funds are lower than the respective average annual increase of the greenhouse areas under crops. The latter is the result of the economy realized in the installation of an unit area, as well as an indication of the more rational utilization of the new capital investments.
- The growth rates of the total production are ahead of the respective rates of the basic funds of production, while the rates of growth of net production exceed by far those of the total production. This again is an indication of the more rational utilization of the funds and of the increased economic effectiveness of this branch of agriculture.
- The crucial moment in the accretion of the economic indices in the greenhouse production of vegetables began to be felt clearly after 1964, when a decisive concentration of the production was achieved and proper conditions were created towards the rapid infiltration of technical progress in this important branch of the country's economy.
