ARTIFICIAL VIBRATION FOR INCREASING FRUIT SET OF TOMATO UNDER ARID CONDITIONS

S.M.E. Satti
Tomato cultivars, (Chico III, Pearson A-1, Moneymaker and Strain B) were transplanted in the field during the summer of 1983/1984 under Sudan Gezira conditions. Artificial vibration of inflorescences was employed at the time of anthesis. Fruit set was increased in all cultivars tested by 10–17% when compared with unvibrated control. Flowers counts revealed that 16–19% of them have exserted styles.
