VITRIFICATION : A PHENOMENON RELATED TO TISSUE WATER CONTENT?

Different expressions of M.26 vitrified leaves are described. Water saturation deficit (W.S.D.) measurements indicate presence of water instead of air in the lacunae. It is the reason of the translucent aspect of humid vitrified leaves. Role of BAP on hydric metabolism of in vitro propagated plants must be investigated in relation with vitrification phenomenon.
