FILBERT PLANTLET FORMATION THROUGH "IN VITRO" CULTURE
Tissue culture methods are described for clonal multiplication of Corylus avellana L. using embryos and single lateral bud explants from adult trees. BAP (8.0 mg/l) in ½ K(h) medium was found to be best suited for multiple shoot differentiation in embryo cultures. A multiplication rate of 5.0 ± 1.1 shoots per embryo was obtained in 30 days culture with BAP (0.1–2.0 mg/l). Only one shoot ready for rooting could be developed from each lateral adult bud cultured "in vitro". Shoots from both kinds of explants formed adventitious roots after treatment with IBA 1.5 g/l for 10 sec. and then transplanting to ½ K(h) basal medium without regulators.
