PHYTPROG II PRACTICAL APPLICATION AND AUTOMATIC WEATHER STATION

B. Schöber, H. Schiff
Depending on weather conditions, Phytophthora infestans occurs in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) in every year. It causes yield reduction and storage losses up to 30%. These losses may reach 100% through secondary infections by other organisms. So it is necessary to have a good forecasting system. The negative forecasting system for late blight in potatoes, based on the investigations by Ullrich and Schrödter (1966), is used in the FRG. In Austria an automatic weather station was developed by the Institute for Agriculture of the Austrian Research Center Seibersdorf. This can be used to take the measurements needed for this negative forecasting.
