ENERGY SAVING GREENHOUSE SYSTEM WITH SOLAR ENERGY

A commercial 1700 m2 triple glazed greenhouse with thermal screen has been used for solar heating. The greenhouse as a collector itself in combination with an underground rock-bed was measured for two years. Overall thermal and economical evaluations were carried out with a simulation program using long term climate data. On the basis of these results a technical optimization and further evaluations lead to the conclusion, that the system can work with very high efficiency whilst decreasing the investment cost drastically. However, with about 20–30 % covering of the annual heat load by solar energy, at current oil prices the system does not work economically. For raising energy prices in the future this system is given the most chances for commercial application.
